First Reconciliation and First Communion
At St John, sacramental preparation classes are held for second graders and older children who, together with their parents/guardians, are ready to make a commitment to the Catholic Church. First Reconciliation classes are held in the Fall and First Communion classes are held in the Spring.
First Reconciliation classes must be completed before preparing for First Eucharist. Your child must be a baptized Catholic to receive the sacraments. If your child has not been baptized a Catholic, please contact Julia Rudden at the parish office at email@example.com.
All children of Catechetical age (7 or older) who have not yet been baptized and wish to receive the sacraments will be invited to attend the Rite of Christian Initiation adapted for Children.
Our First Reconciliation and First Communion program includes an opening prayer service, a church tour, and classroom sessions, along with our St John traditions of Bread Baking and Scrolls. The classroom sessions are for both children and parents/guardians. Our St John School second grade teachers lead the children's sessions along with parent volunteer assistants. Our parent sessions cover the same material so you can know what your children are learning, but also offer time for questions, discussion and reflection. Our goal is to support parents and guardians in their unique role of primary teachers of the faith.
All children will receive the Magnifikids monthly publication to aid them in following along at mass and learning the prayers of the Church.
To register your child, print the form below and turn it in to the Parish Office.
