At St John, sacramental preparation classes are held for second graders and older children who, together with their parents/guardians, are ready to make a commitment to the Catholic Church. First Reconciliation classes are held in the Fall and First Communion classes are held in the Spring.
First Reconciliation classes must be completed before preparing for First Eucharist. Your child must be a baptized Catholic to receive the sacraments. If your child has not been baptized a Catholic, please contact Julia Rudden at the parish office at jrudden@stjohnsea.org to learn more about Catholic baptism.
All children of Catechetical age (7 or older) who have not yet been baptized and wish to receive the sacraments will be invited to participate in the Order of Christian Initiation adapted for Children classes. The classes for the OCIA-AC program begin in January.
Our First Reconciliation and First Communion program includes a church tour and classroom sessions, along with our St. John traditions of Bread Baking and Scrolls. The classroom sessions are for both children and parents/guardians. Our St John School second grade teachers lead the children's sessions; parent sessions are led by Julia Rudden & Daniel Pelfrey, our St. John Faith Formation team.
Our parent sessions cover the same material so you can know what your children are learning, but also offer time for questions, discussion and reflection. Our goal is to support parents and guardians in their unique role of primary teachers of the faith.
