Safe Environment

Safe Environment

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at St John.

Our community wouldn't be the same without all of our amazing volunteers.

You will find on this page all of the information you need to get started in the Safe Environment Program.

What is the Safe Environment Program?
The Archdiocese of Seattle has a long commitment to the protection of children, youth and vulnerable adults. For years, we've taken steps to ensure the safety of those who serve and are served in our parishes, schools and agencies. Our program was established in the late 1980's, well ahead of the 2002 USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Youth, to ensure our safety commitments, while also offering assistance to those who are suffering in the aftermath of abuse.

Compliance with all Safe Environment requirements within the Archdiocese of Seattle includes:

  1. Completed a criminal background check on or before the first day of work or volunteering and renewed every three years while in active service.
  2. Read and signed off on the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Policies on or before the first day of work or volunteering. This is a one-time requirement.
  3. * Completed initial training (Protecting God’s Children for Adults either in-person group session OR internet-based personal session) within 30 days of starting work or volunteering and online renewal training every three years while in active service.

* Training is in-person or online. The online option is at the bottom of the list of classes and is called " Protecting God's Children for Adults (Online Training)."
